Lanthanum-loaded zirconium phosphate features a high specific surface area, strong adsorption capacity, good thermal stability and tunable acidity/alkalinity. It provides broad-spectrum antibacterial action by releasing lanthanum ions that disrupt bacterial cell membranes and can be used in medical implant coatings, food packaging materials and water-treatment membranes. Its layered structure can carry antibiotics or anticancer drugs for pH-responsive sustained release, with good biocompatibility (cell viability > 95%). Environmentally, it has a very strong affinity for fluoride (F⁻) and can bind phosphate to form sparingly soluble lanthanum phosphate, making it suitable for fluoride removal and phosphorus pollution control in water.
